Salt Lake City police say a thief now has more metal that he wanted — behind steel bars.

Just before 9 a.m. Monday, an officer investigated a report that someone had cut off part of a light pole on private property at 1445 S. Gustin Road. Fortunately for the owner, a nearby security camera had captured the thief in the act.

The footage allowed police to identify the suspect's vehicle and license plate number, and soon thereafter police located the suspect at a nearby metal recycling plant.

A 51-year-old man was arrested and booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of theft and unrelated arrest warrants.
