Six people are in custody after a high-speed chase across 36 miles of highway and into the Washington County hills.

About 3:18 a.m., an Iron County Sheriff's deputy saw a white Dodge pickup driving south on Interstate 15. The deputy tried to stop the truck near Cedar City, at mile post 63, for failing to maintain a lane, but the truck sped away, according to an Iron County Sheriff's news release.

A chase ensued, with speeds exceeding 100 mph. Cedar City police, Washington County Sheriff's deputies and Utah Highway Patrol troopers joined the pursuit as well.

Near mile post 31, the officers deployed spikes and blew the truck's front two tires. The truck did not come to a stop for another four miles, where three people were taken into custody.

But three other suspects from the truck fled into the hills west of the interstate. It was not until 7:30 a.m. that officers, police dogs and a UHP helicopter tracked them to an area near the Toquerville mines, according to the release.

Four juveniles were booked into the Cedar City juvenile detention center. Two adults were booked into the Iron County Jail.

It turned out that the truck was reported stolen out of West Valley City. Investigators found two shotguns inside.
