If you're a journalism student looking for an internship, a networking lunch planned this weekend may be your best chance to get a foot in the door.

The Utah Headliners Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists on Feb. 22 is sponsoring a daylong Back to Basics Boot Camp offering workshops on writing, interviewing, reporting with public records and other documents, and ethics and media law.

The event, which begins with a light breakfast at 9:30 a.m., also will provide a lunchtime opportunity to chat with those who direct Utah news internship programs. I'll attend the lunch, along with representatives of KUTV Channel 2, KTVX Channel 4, KSL Channel 5 and The Deseret News.

Bring a resume, and come prepared with questions for myself or any of my colleagues.

The boot camp itself will provide helpful training for students as well.

Tribune assistant managing editor David Noyce and reporter/editor Nate Carlisle will be among professionals teaching workshops, which will be in the student center at Utah Valley University, 800 W. University Parkway, Orem.

For more information or to RSVP, join the Facebook event page, where you also will find a more detailed schedule.
