The schools are not rivals in any sense, and they share ties to a gold medalist. Just the same, it has been fun to track the success of The Winter Sports School in Park City and Westminster College of Salt Lake City in these Games. Through its partnership with the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association, Westminster offers tuition grants to athletes. The school lists four 2014 medalists as current students: Joss Christensen (gold, ski slopestyle), Maddie Bowman (gold, ski halfpipe), Devin Logan (silver, ski slopestyle) and Alex Deibold (bronze, snowboardcross). Snowboard halfpipe gold medalist Kaitlyn Farrington is a former student. Five graduates of The Winter Sports School, with a seasonal academic schedule that accommodates athletes in high school, have medaled: Christensen, Ted Ligety (gold, skiing giant slalom), Andrew Weibrecht (silver, skiing super-G), Julia Mancuso (bronze, skiing super combined) and Steven Holcomb (bronze, two-man bobsled).Ligety and Holcomb have more medal opportunities this weekend.
