This week's Utah Crowd-Funding project aims to put Provo on the fashion map alongside New York, Paris and Milan.

Designers Melanie Brook and Janay Robison are organizing the first-ever "Provo Fashion Week," a two-night event to highlight local designers's work as worn by local models.

The event is set for April 9 and 10, at 6:30 and 9 p.m., at The Startup Building, 560 S. 100 West, Provo. Tickets are $5, with proceeds going to the Provo Food & Care Coalition.

Now Brook and Robison are trying to pay for the show, and have taken to Kickstarter for help.

"We are both poor college students with big dreams and small wallets," Brook and Robison write on their Kickstarter page.

They are seeking $3,200 to cover costs for the venue, a DJ, equipment rentals and printed materials. They also want to hire photographers, to provide portfolio shots of the designers' work.

So far, the Kickstarter campaign has raised $430. The deadline is April 1.

Donors can receive everything from a personalized thank-you note (for a $10 pledge) to a custom-made short dress (for a $750 donation).
