Krasnaya Polyana, Russia • Danelle Umstead of Park City finished fifth among six contestants in the visually impaired class of the women's downhill skiing event Saturday as competition began in the Paralympic Winter Games.
Skiing with her husband, Rob, as her guide, Umstead finished in 1 minute, 36.7 seconds. She was .88 seconds out of third place. Russia's Henrieta Farkasova won.
Umstead will be featured in the NBC Sports Network's studio coverage Monday, beginning at 10 a.m MDT. She's scheduled to race in the super-G event that day, her second of five disciplines.
