I wonder how many of Utah's leaders who are currently thumping their breasts about the National Geographic putting southern Utah's Kane County on the top 10 list of places to visit in the world also complained about President Clinton creating the incredibly scenic Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, which encompasses so much of what those highly desirable tourists come for.
Kane County and the Grand Staircase are synonymous ("National Geographic puts Utah's Kane County in its Top 10," Tribune, March 13).
Utah's international reputation is the great outdoors, but too many here take it for granted. Want Utah to take over the management of federal park lands in Utah? Just look at how well we're managing our natural resource of clean air — even when it's harming the health of our citizens!
