Utah-based backcountry.com has added a new product called Detour.

The website, detour.backcountry.com, is a new outdoor adventure marketplace that allows adventure seekers to connect with professional outdoor guides.

Currently, it features more than 100 outdoor adventures concentrated in Utah, Colorado and the Northeast. Those going to the website choose the region where they want to book a guide, pick an adventure and then book the guide.

Outdoor experiences such as skiing, climbing, mountain biking, hiking and fly fishing are listed. A glance at the website showed offerings such as snow kiting in Colorado or booking a private adventure guide in Utah.

The site plans future expansions into California in the near term followed by Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.

All guides are insured professionals.

Detour trips are outlined in detail with a trip description, itinerary, gear list, guide bio and trip images.

"Our passion at Backcountry is to be at the center of our customers' outdoor lives by providing savvy gear advance and helping enthusiasts get to the goods," said Jill Layfield, backcountry.com's CEO. "Detour sets our brand apart by offering tailored, locally guided excursions that are unique and unrivaled. It provides a sense of exploration in an entirely new format, with skilled and knowledgeable guides leading guests to lesser-known powder stashes, crags, singletrack and off-the-beaten-path hiking destinations around the country."

Guides who are interested in being on the site should log into detour.backcountry.com/become-a-guide.

Backcountry.com was founded in Park City in 1996 and bills itself as the largest online specialty retailer of premium outdoor gear.

Its sites now include backcountry.com, dogfunk.com, Competitive Cyclist, SteepandCheap.com, WhiskeyMilitia.com, chainlove.com and MotoSport.com.
