An early Sunday shooting in West Valley City left one man in critical condition.

Police responded to Overlook Point Apartments, 4640 S. 2970 West, on a report of a shooting at about 6:10 a.m. Sunday.

When officers arrived, they found one man with a gunshot wound in the head. He was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, according to West Valley City police.

Police say a group of adults was in the apartment when an altercation took place and one person fired a gun multiple times before running from the apartment.

Police said Sunday afternoon that the shooting was the result of a failed robbery attempt.

An 18-year-old man was arrested Sunday and booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of attempted homicide, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, obstruction of justice and discharge of a firearm.
