Bountiful police are still searching for a man who fired multiple shots at a passing vehicle Friday night, wounding two people.

Lt. Dave Edwards said one victim called 911 about 10:55 p.m. to report he and a passenger were enroute to Lakeview Hospital after being shot while driving past several apartment buildings near 2200 South and Orchard Drive. The victims, Matthew Bennion and Stephanie Smith, were later transferred to University Hospital for treatment; their injuries are not life-threatening. A child riding in the vehicle was not injured.

Edwards said officers responded to the scene and located a witness who saw a male in dark clothing fire shots at the pair's vehicle, which was hit several times, and then flee into an apartment building. A SWAT team searched the area but was unable to locate the suspect Friday night.

Edwards said the incident may be drug-related, but an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Bountiful Police Department at 801-298-6000.
