Utah forecast: Cheery cherry blossoms amid wind and rain

Freshening air • Don't get the blues; precipitation means less pollen, fresher air.

Utah's weekend forecast, courtesy of bluesman Fruitland Jackson: "The storm is rising and the rain begins to fall."

The Wasatch Front's version of his Falling Rain Blues is to debut Friday afternoon, as isolated showers pelt the region, driven by winds of 10-20 mph. More precipitation is forecast for Friday night and continuing, off and on, throughout Saturday.

High temperatures on Saturday are to range into the mid-50s, down a few degrees from Friday's expectations.

Mostly cloudy skies and highs in the upper-60s were predicted for southern Utah, though Saturday afternoon thunderstorms, along with winds of 20 mph, were on the horizon for the redrocks region.

The good thing about rain and wind is the way they scrub out pollutants and pollen. The Utah Division of Air Quality is giving "green," or healthy air quality grades for the entire state this weekend, while the Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website predicts allergy sufferers will get a break as pollen levels dip to near nothing.

So, as Quicksilver Messenger Service once advised, "take another hit of fresh air."

But bring an umbrella.
