In exchange for his plea, prosecutors in January dropped three other charges accusing Carter of drunken driving, operating a vehicle while his license was revoked or suspended and uncontrolled driving in a canyon.
On July 7, 2013, Carter was driving in Carbon County when his truck veered off Pondtown Road, near Scofield, about 1:45 a.m., according to charging documents.
Carter and his passenger, 22-year-old Brooke Tomadakis, were ejected as the truck rolled down a 150-foot embankment.
Tomadakis died at the scene.
Carter and another passenger in the truck, Chad Wink, survived the crash.
According to Carbon County officials, no one in the vehicle had been wearing seat belts.
When police tested Carter's blood-alcohol level, it registered at slightly above the legal limit of 0.08 percent. He has been cited for several traffic citations in the past and in 2005 was convicted of attempted aggravated assault.
