A paraglider was critically injured when he reportedly crashed Sunday afternoon near Point of the Mountain.

Emergency responders received a call at about 3 p.m. about the crash, near 15300 S. Steep Mountain Drive in Draper, a popular hang gliding site. A 32-year-old man's parachute apparently collapsed while he was 10 feet to 15 feet above the ground, which swung him into the hillside, said Unified Fire Authority Battalion Chief Brian Anderton.

The man, who was wearing a helmet, was knocked unconscious. A crew rescued him from the hillside and a helicopter flew him to a hospital in critical condition, Anderton said. The battalion chief was not immediately aware of the extent of the man's injuries, or whether they are life-threatening.

It was not immediately clear why the man's parachute collapsed, Anderton said.
