'Architecture Week' aims to make people think about their surroundings

A group of Utah architects is encouraging everyone to take some time this week to think about the spaces in which they live, work, shop and do other things.

It's Architecture Week in Utah, now through Saturday — an event organized by the Utah Center for Architecture to contemplate the design of buildings and other manmade structures.

Among the major events of Architecture Week is Box City, a project in which 200 elementary school students built a miniature city out of cardboard and construction paper. The finished work is on display at the Salt Lake City Library main branch, 210 E. 400 South, through Wednesday. (An award ceremony honoring the students is set for Wednesday at 6 p.m.)

A walking tour of Ogden's historic Trolley District is planned for Friday, starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday's events include walking tours of Sugar House Park, downtown Salt Lake City, and St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in West Jordan.
