Unified Police were looking for two men suspected in the fatal weekend shooting of a Magna man.

Carlos L. Martinez, 40, was standing in front of his house, near 3800 South Armoridge Lane (8180 West), about 9 p.m. Sunday when a man jumped out of a car and opened fire on Martinez, striking him several times, said UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal. The man got back into the car, which another man drove away, Hoyal said.

Martinez was rushed to Intermountain Medical Center, where he died, Hoyal said.

Several witnesses saw the car speed away, Hoyal said. It was described as a silver or gray, four-door passenger car with tinted windows, Hoyal said. Witnesses have identified several different makes and models.

UPD was looking for two men, both Latinos. The driver was described as heavyset. The passenger and shooter was described as short, thin and in his 30s.

"We don't have a firm reason as to why this happened yet," Hoyal said. Investigators are trying to determine whether the shooter and Martinez said anything to each other immediately before the shooting or what their previous dealings may have been, Hoyal said.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call UPD at 801-743-7000.
