Thunderstorms and intermittent rain showers were forecast to pelt northern Utah, while gusty and occasionally wet weather will slap the southern half of the state on Wednesday,

The Wasatch Front was to get a preview of the coming lightning and rain Tuesday, with afternoon showers forecast as daytime temperatures hover in the mid- to upper-60s. Wednesday's highs for the region were expected to dip into the 50s.

Windy and sunny weather forecast for southern Utah on Tuesday, with highs in the mid-70s, is to give way to rain clouds driven by winds of 20-30 mph by Tuesday night. Wednesday's forecast for the region calls for more intermittent rainfall as highs retreat into the low-70s.

The precipitation is expected to help alleviate the dry conditions prevalent in southwestern Utah, where a Red Flag Warning for wildfire danger is in place until 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The Utah Division of Air Quality predicted "green," or healthy breathing conditions statewide, but the Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website warned that midweek pollen levels would be "very high" for mulberry and oak; "high" for sycamore, maple and cedar, and "moderate" for grass and mold.
