Jazz officials have had talks with Jones since it was announced that Corbin and his staff would not be returning next season. But sources also suggested Jones could be retained as an assistant should the Jazz opt to hire one of the other three candidates who appear to be on the team's short list: Alvin Gentry, Quin Snyder and Adrian Griffin.
The Jazz are conducting second interviews this week with Gentry and Griffin, as they work their way through a deliberate hiring process.
Jones' pedigree includes a D-League championship. As the head coach of the Austin Toros, the San Antonio Spurs affiliate, Jones won a D-League title in 2012.He is also Sloan's nephew.
Before joining Austin, Jones spent three seasons as the head coach of the Utah Flash.
Jones returned to Utah in 2012 as a player development coach for the Jazz before being promoted to the bench last season.
