A man and his alleged female accomplice were arrested Sunday just moments after they purportedly ambushed, beat and robbed a woman of her purse, Salt Lake City police say.

SLCPD Detective Greg Wilkins said the woman had driven to a friend's apartment to pick up a vehicle about 5 p.m. Sunday, near 700 South and 400 East. As she arrived, the victim was attacked and the suspects then fled in a car.

Police, working with a description of the getaway vehicle that included a license plate number, soon spotted the car and pulled it over. The victim's purse was found inside and the 32-year-old male driver and a 29-year-old woman were arrested.

Both suspects were booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of robbery, assault and possession of a controlled substance.
