A man was shot in the buttocks early Saturday morning during a fight over a girl, Salt Lake City police reported Monday.

The victim arrived at a home near 650 S. Redwood Road at about 3 a.m. to pick up his girlfriend, who was partying with other men, when a fight began, police reported.

One of the participants in the fight fired a round from a handgun, after which the suspect and others fled the scene.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where it was discovered he had been shot in the buttocks.

An investigation was ongoing, police said.
