Courtney Barnett • Honesty is important to Australian garage-pop musician Courtney Barnett, particularly in songwriting. "That doesn't mean it has to be deep, dark personal secrets, it just means it has to be honest," Barnett says on her label's website. "It could be about walking to the shop, but if it's said with that person's perspective then it can make it interesting." Barnett's songwriting has received critical attention since her 2013 EP, "How to Carve a Carrot Into a Rose," with its hit single "Avant Gardener," which recounts a near-death experience of an anaphylactic asthma attack. Opening act: Your Friend, the project of Lawrence, Kan.-based musician Taryn Blake Miller.
