Register now for home-brew contest

Registration is under way for the second annual Bier Brauen, a home-brewing contest, which takes place during the annual Oktoberfest celebration at Grace Lutheran Church and School. It is one of only two contests in the state sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association and the Beer Judge Certification Program. The contest emphasizes German-style brews, but beers will be accepted in more than a dozen categories. Here's what you need to know:

Registration • Through Aug. 6 at 10 p.m.

Entry drop-off • Aug. 31-Sept. 6 at Grace Lutheran Church and School, 1815 E. 9800 South, Sandy; Salt City Brew Supply, 750 E. Fort Union Blvd., Midvale; or The Beer Nut, 1200 S. State St., Salt Lake City

Judging • Sept. 12-13 and 19-20

Park City Food and Wine Classic

Tickets are still available for many of the seminars, tasting and outdoor excursions taking place this week during the Park City Food & Wine Classic. Expert-led seminars teach guests how to "navigate a restaurant wine list," pair "beer and barbecue" or understand the finer points of sake. Larger events include a Wine on the Mountain Celebration and Stroll of Park City. Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the nonprofit People's Health Clinic, which provides care for Summit and Wasatch counties.
