Two men died in Uintah County after they were thrown from their rolling vehicle.
A 21-year-old and an 18-year-old, who were not immediately identified, were traveling Saturday on Dry Fork Canyon Road when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, going off the road and up a dirt hill, according to the Uintah County Sheriff's Office. The vehicle rolled several times and both of the men were ejected near 6000 North.
No one saw the crash, but people nearby heard it happen and came upon it about 8 p.m. Deputies arrived and confirmed that the 21-year-old man had died instantly from his injuries, and that the 18-year-old was critically injured.
The people who found the crash rendered first aid to the younger man until the ambulance arrived, but he later died at the hospital.
"Deputies were told that the vehicle was seen being driven southbound on the Dry Fork Canyon Road at a high rate of speed just prior to the crash," according to a statement from the sheriff's office. "… At this time, speed is the only factor in the accident and there wasn't any evidence of alcohol on scene."
Investigators are still trying to reach the men's families, and are withholding their names in the meantime.
