After taking a convincing 9-0 victory over St. George Friday night in Logan to successfully defend its Utah State American Legion baseball championship, Helper heads to Surprise, Arizona, for a 12:30 p.m. Thursday meeting with the New Mexico state champions in the first round of the Western Region championships.

Cole Fossat tossed a one-hitter to stymie St. George in the Utah state final. The Carbon County team scored five runs in the fourth inning to break open the game. A two-run single by Dillon Wilstead and a two-run triple by Bryce Blackburn keyed the rally.

"I cannot say enough about how this team worked all season to get to this point," said Helper coach Jeff Cisneros. "We had a lot of ups and downs but they really bought into playing team ball by the time the state tournament rolled around."

Fossat was named the Utah State Tournament most valuable player, Colton Greener was awarded the State American Legion scholarship award and Dominic Rondinelli was awarded the defensive player award.
