In his assessment of Thursday's practice session, Utah State coach Matt Wells said the offense got the better of the defense. It's a refrain we probably should get accustomed to hearing in the coming weeks. With Chuckie Keeton back looking good as ever, the offense seems to be ahead of where it was a year ago at this time. An encouraging sign Thursday was the play of the offensive line, which Wells thought got the better of the defense. While his words might have been a little coach psychology at work to keep the defense on its toes, fans still have to like the idea that the line, thought to be one of the areas that needs the most work in camp, is coming together earlier than expected. Also a positive is the play of the young running backs, LaJuan Hunt, Justen Hervey and Tonny Lindsey. Redshirt freshman Braelon Roberts and JoJo Natson continue to play well too. While it's only the first week of practice and the Aggies have yet to practice in full pads, Utah State fans have to like how the offense has started. As for the defense? Well, it will surely have its days too, but they might be fewer and farther between than the defenders would like. That isn't necessarily a bad thing at all.
