A weekend barrage of gunfire that left six people wounded at a downtown Salt Lake City night club has police looking for both witnesses and suspects, and not having much luck with either.
"It was a chaotic scene," SLCPD Detective Greg Wilkins said of the late Saturday night incident. "Hundreds of people involved, and people were running away" as officers arrived.
On Monday, detectives were "still trying to round up any witnesses," he added, noting that police only knew they were looking for "multiple Latino male suspects; we're not ruling out any number at this point."
Wilkins also said it remained unclear if the shootings were gang-related.
The six people injured suffered minor gunshot wounds from what may have been a small-caliber weapon. Wilkins said he believed most, if not all of them had been treated and released from local hospitals. He had no further information on the victims.
Police believe the shooter was inside Inferno Cantina, at 122 W. Pierpont Ave., when he opened fire about 11:45 p.m. Saturday.
An armed guard for the club pulled his own handgun and fired at a car the shooter jumped into, but it still was unknown if anyone in the vehicle was hit.
Early Sunday morning, the Utah Highway Patrol located the suspect vehicle, a Cadillac sedan, near 2320 S. 1650 West. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of Salt Lake City.
