Provo police are offering a reward for information that would help them solve an almost four-month-old murder.

On May 21, Belen Perez's son found her body in her home near 2000 West and 50 North. There was no sign of forced entry. No one lives in the home except Perez and her son, but he is not considered a suspect.

An autopsy showed Perez had been strangled to death.

"We've exhausted a lot of our leads," said Lt. Mathew Siufanua. "We were hoping that DNA would assist us, and at this point it just hasn't."

Perez's neighbor, Kimberly Bennett, previously told The Salt Lake Tribune that the son, "opened the door and then I just heard screaming, and then he started screaming, 'Call 911.' "

Bennett told KUTV 2 News that, phone in hand, she ran over and saw Perez lying on the floor, an electrical cord wrapped around her neck.

"Her clothes were covered in bleach. Her head was covered in Liquid Plumber," Bennett added.

Police declined to confirm Bennett's observations.

Detectives interviewed neighbors, friends and family, but never named a suspect or suspects in the slaying.

A $2,000 reward is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects responsible, according to a police news release.

"If you know something and you think you can help us find this individual or individuals … come forward," Siufanua said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Provo Police Department's hotline at 801-852-7400.
