Kevin J. Worthen has been formally installed as president of Brigham Young University.

President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor in the governing First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, installed Worthen in a ceremony Tuesday as the university's 13th president.

LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency, also attended the ceremony.

Worthen, who has worked as the university's law school dean and its vice president of advancement, replaces former President Cecil O. Samuelson.

BYU had about 33,300 students in 2012, though the size of the student body dropped about 10 percent in 2013 due to lowered age requirements for Mormon missionaries.
