The two people behind indie music label Northplatte Records – Joshua James and McKay Stevens – will be the guest speakers at a Soundcheck Series workshop Jan. 24 in Salt Lake City.
Their presentation, "Finding Your Voice and Songwriting with Passion" will be held at Metcom Studios, 352 S. 500 East, in downtown Salt Lake City beginning at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at http://www.soundcheckseries.com or at the door. The duo, based in Provo, created Northplatte Records in 2006 when both decided that it would be more rewarding to promote their talents independently, rather than cede control to a major record label. James' career was starting to take off and they successfully attracted several like RuRu, Sayde Price, Parlor Hawk and Desert Noises to the label.
The Soundcheck Series workshops are sponsored by the Legacy Music Alliance and held monthly to give musicians access to the top experts and professionals in the industry and create a forum for exploring all aspects of the music business from publishing and writing to networking, marketing, and production.
The Legacy Music Alliance was organized in 2010 as a nonprofit association to bolster music education in the Intermountain West. The Legacy Music Alliance is headed by CEO Gaylen Rust, a successful Utah businessman, and Craig Jessop, chairman of the Executive Advisory Board and currently Dean of the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University. Jessop was the formerdirector of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
